Grass Roots Golf Croquet Competition

The Grass Roots golf croquet competition, aimed at novices and beginners to the golf croquet scene, proved to be a happy and successful event for the 16 competitors who reached the final played at Northampton in September. Kenilworth and Lansdown were welcome newcomers to the competition this year.

The event encourages new players to learn from each other by playing up to 7 rounds of progressive doubles before determining the top four who then play singles games for the top four places in two further games.

The final four places went to Margaret Yeats from Bury with 28 points, John Keats from Eynsham and John Harvey from Sapcote both with 27 points and 5 wins, and John Norman from Woodhall Spa with 27 points and 4 wins who played off against Bob Potter, also from Woodhall Spa, with the same points and wins.

In the semi-finals, John Harvey beat Margaret Yeats 7:4 and John Norman beat John Keates 7:3. John Keates played Margaret Yeats and won 3rd place with a 7:3 score whilst John Norman played John Harvey and became the cup winner with a 7:0 score.
