Secretary's Shield successfor Spa squad 2005 THE secretary and the vice-chairman of the Croquet Association presented the Secretary's Shield to the team captain of the Woodhall Spa Croquet Club tournament team at a meeting in London. A triumphant team of five Woodhall Spa Croquet Club players won this by playing other winners from Federations from around the country and clocked almost 1,000 miles in order to do so. They began their campaign with a match against Purley Bury from the South East Federation in July, visiting the glorious setting of the Wrest Park Croquet Club in Bedfordshire. This match was won 4-3. For the next round, the team traveled to Ripon Spa Hotel Croquet Club in Yorkshire. Another delightful setting to play a team from Tyneside in the North Federation which they again won 4-3. The final was against Swindon Croquet Club from the South West Federation whom the club had first met in 2003. The setting for this match was the grounds of the Three Shires Hospital in Northampton with four lawns before a classic building with chapel beside the lawns. This time the team won with a convincing lead of 5-2. The Woodhall Spa team comprised Mike Bowser from Pinchbeck, Patricia Duke-Cox from Woodhall Spa, Nigel Harding from Tetford, David Eckford from Panton and Bob Thompson from Sutton in Ashfield
